IFP - Institut Francais du Pétrole

Institut Français du Pétrole (IFP) is a French independent hydrocarbon major centre for research, industrial development, education and training (Ecole du Pétrole et des Moteurs: ENSPM) and information. It is unique in Europe and its activity covers all the sectors of the oil and gas industry from exploration-production to automotive engines including refining and petrochemicals. The core business of IFP is concerned by scientific and technological innovations for (1) public interest particularly in the scope of oil supply security, environmental protection, rational use of energy and sustainable development; (2) industry support from expertise and knowledge transfer to small and medium sized enterprises (SME) up to new industrial company network. The personnel includes 900 researchers, scientists (123 ongoing thesis and 55 post-doctoral researchers) and supporting staff. Turnover in 2001 was about 308 million of Euro.
Concerning CO2 emission reduction, IFP is developing research in improving energy efficiency in engines, in development of biofuels and in CO2 capture and storage. For this last topic, IFP is co-ordinating the European IP "CASTOR" and the SSA "InCA-CO2".
