ExxonMobil is the world's largest publicly traded international oil and gas company. An industry leader in almost every aspect of the energy and petrochemical business, we operate facilities or market products in nearly 200 countries and territories around the world and explore for oil and natural gas on six continents.
ExxonMobil maintains one of the industry's largest research and development efforts. We emphasize proprietary solutions that solve critical business challenges and pursue research into proprietary breakthrough technologies that will not only enhance existing businesses, but also provide step changes in ExxonMobil's competitive position.
We are also working with the scientific and business communities to undertake research to identify and develop economically competitive and affordable technologies to reduce long-term global greenhouse gas emissions while meeting the world's growing demand for energy. Examples include our financial support and the provision of expert technical guidance from ExxonMobil's Upstream Research Company to the CO2ReMoVe project.
In addition to CO2ReMoVe, ExxonMobil is also an active supporter of other research into climate science and technologies to reduce the risks of climate change. ExxonMobil worked to establish and is providing $100 million to Stanford University's Global Climate and Energy Project (GCEP), a major long-term research program designed to accelerate development of a range of commercially viable energy technologies that can lower greenhouse emissions on a world scale.
